The Spoken Word

Versatility and Surprise… A mix of unexpected wonder from an artist who has governed floors as of late more than most. An icon with the story of a dreamer, Grant aka Dynamic Range is making moves in SA and has the golden touch seen with the work he does on both Expo Records & Expo Bookings respectively. A determined atmosphere is felt right away when you engage with him and always has looks for the best out of any situation. Having smashed Rezonance Festival as well as Origin Festival in the past month, we can expect massive things from the Expo Head Honcho at Alien Safari’s next installment: Wild Spirits.

The Scoop

1) Describe Yourself In Three Words
Grant: Addicted to Music
2) Your Fave Release Of All Time?
Grant: Sonic Species – Unleash the beat (Alchemy records) – an absolute masterpiece. It says a lot about someones level of production (back in 2012) when you can still squeeze their tracks into your DJ sets 6/7 years on. Especially with the current state of music making technology and advances. Massive fan of all his work!
3) Artist To Watch Out For?
Grant: In South Africa. Look out for a new project called Halo horizon, his debut EP drops in a couple months- We have been leaking a few samples in videos on our Expo records Facebook page and I have tested them at Rez and Origin with great crowd responses!! Then Audiofire (uk), just doesn’t make a bad tune in my opinion and I have to mention Starlab, Escape (24/7) and Antinomy who are all making fantastic music right now.
4) Advice For The Dreamers, Trendsetters & Up N’ Comers Out There?
Grant: The biggest downfall I find in this music business is Ego and self entitlement… There is no room for that here! Put in the time, be yourself (no one likes a copycat), be humble, be driven and inspire others through what you do.
5) What can we expect from Dynamic Range this year?
Grant: Looking forward to altered states in March, and still have a few more bookings that I am waiting to announce here in South Africa before I head off to Europe for a DJ tour which I am very excited about.
