Last year MyCityByNight called the winner of South African Idols season 6 after we met with Elvis Blue and had a cool interview [HERE] with the totally down to earth muso from the picturesque town of George in the Western Cape. We also got behind our other favourite contestant- Adeline Mocke and had a cool interview with her too [HERE], and gave her every ounce of support that we could muster up on a weekly basis right up until the final 5 when the she got voted out (we cried for days, but then remembered that we were tight, so we’d probably see her on the weekend).
This year Idols South Africa returns with Season 7 and a whole new selection of ridiculously bad wannabes and the odd really gifted singer looking to shoot to fame through winning the competition. Season 7 also has the addition of a brand new judge, the sassy and chic Metro FM radio personality and recording artist Unathi Msengana to join the likes of Randall Abrahams and Gareth Cliff. This obviously means that the almost always drunk Mara Louw will no longer be around to provide comic relief and call people baby. To be honest, I’ll kind of miss her, she made me feel like I was ok and that there was hope for me to host some form of tv series in the future.
Ok so here are the details: (no these aren’t typos, the auditions are actually going to be held in Stadiums this time around to accommodate the numbers)
Where It’s Happening:
Idols 7 auditions will be held this February and March as follows:
In Cape Town at the CTICC on Saturday, 12 February
In Polokwane at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, 26 February
In Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 5 March
In Soweto at the Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday, 26 March
And in Johannesburg at Montecasino on Saturday, 2 April.
Contestants are advised to arrive at the above audition venues as early as possible on audition day, and to remember their I.D. books. Contestants must also be available to return to the venues the following day if necessary, but MUST arrive on the given dates for registration.
Auditions are only open to South African citizens between the ages of 16 and 30.
