Horrorwood IV & a night of creepiness at Brightwater Commons

Oliver Kingston,Lee Chaldercott,Melville

Halloween has been a holiday that has slowly grown in prestige in South Africa over the years with more and people getting involved in celebrating the tradition of getting all dressed up (in the case of the adults it’s always just a sluttier version of the original – eg Slutty nurse). On Thursday, 31st October between 4pm and 9pm the creatures of the night will materialise, either creeping from their dark corners or fluttering out from sparking hiding places – and no I’m not talking about the residents of the Jozi central! Eerie monsters, crawling creatures and dazzling princesses all come together at The Brightwater Commons, a Fountainhead Retail Asset for  Horrorowood IV.

The Halloween event features a little something for everyone:

A treat for tots

The afternoon will begin with trick or treating around the Centre for little ones and their parents. Fairies, gremlins and monsters alike can trawl to the various retailers collecting candy and scary surprises.  Best of all, Brightwater stores dress up too! Expect ghostly figures, spider webs and pumpkins to take over the typically neat and bright Commons!

Dress up awards

The 4th annual Toomie Awards attracts spiffy dressers and expert make up artists from far and wide! Gathered around the stage, all will be judged for the Fancy Dress according to the impressiveness of their attire. The black carpet features the best of the night’s creations, awarding them for their mischievous costumes in all age categories – from the very young to the very young at heart! Judging for the fancy dress awards takes place from 16h30 for Pre Primary, Primary is from 17h00 – 17h30, and the Adults and Teenagers are from 17h30 – 18h00, with the Awards Ceremony taking place at 19h00.

Fearsome attractions

Jumping castles, peddle cars and a House of Horror will provide a solution to the high energy levels experienced on All Hallows Eve.

Entry into the House of Horror, situated in the Promotions Court is R5 and all proceeds go to charity. Get your scream on in this magical house, which is bound to dazzle even the scariest of beings with its unearthly atmosphere, lightning effects and other surprises.

Comedic entertainment

Andre the Hilarious Hypnotist will keep the audience on the edge of their seats and possibly even falling off them! Visitors can look forward to seeing their peers ‘perform’ on stage for an almost out of body experience.  This free show is not to be missed!

Carpool with friends

The entrance fee for Halloween will be R30 per car which gets you a voucher to the same value redeemable at Brightwater Commons on the night, and R10 per pedestrian.  Car-pooling is recommended so please bring friends and come together – it can only make the night even more fun!
