After a landmark ruling in 2018 by the constitutional court in SA, cannabis use has stepped out of the shadows and into mainstream popularity, with more and more people across South Africa embracing the medical and recreational benefits of the plant.

The South African economy is on the verge of a green revolution. Smart businesses are gearing up to service a multi-billion rand industry of farmers, distributors and product developers who are patiently waiting for the last bastions of outdated cannabis legislation to topple.

The design and media landscape is no different. A group of future-facing brand development specialists in Cape Town have just launched Highbrow – South Africa’s first cannabis branding and design agency. The company works exclusively with a new strain of entrepreneurs operating in the world of “Cannabusiness”.

Si Maclennan, Chief Creative Officer at Highbrow says, “Specialising in cannabis culture makes perfect sense from an economic perspective, but we’re especially excited because we all personally believe in the progression of this industry – and we get to use our skills to help those trying to contribute to it.”
