The Oxford English Dictionary released a list of updates with over 650 new entries including twenty local words and colloquialisms. Some of the new words added include; misgendered, misgendering and cannabusiness and cannabutter.
The latest South African additions include both of Johannesburg’s nicknames ‘Jozi’ and ‘Joburg’, local lingo such as ‘dof’, ‘bok’, as well as the Zulu words ‘imbizo’ and ‘isicathamiya.’ Imbizo means a meeting or assembly and second isicathamiya is a style of singing amongst rural male choirs.
