Two white tiger cubs, being kept at a residential property in Houghton, Gauteng, were recently reported to the SPCA.
The cubs were not removed from the property. The man holding them captive was informed that tigers are not domesticated animals and that a water bowl and some enrichment toys were needed in the cage. A second inspection confirmed that the cubs now have water bowls and a jungle gym. Isn’t that fantastic?
“A warning was issued and the owners were educated around the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962. Our inspectors requested that the cubs be surrendered to an approved sanctuary where they can live in an environment as close as possible to their natural habitat with minimal human intervention. The owners were advised that tiger cubs are not domesticated animals and should not be kept as companion animals nor in captivity,” said the Sandton SPCA.

According to reports the Sandton SPCA is opposed to wild animals being kept in captivity and are working with the Environmental Health Department to ensure that the tigers are released to a suitable environment.
“We will continue to work on this case until the cubs’ release to an approved sanctuary. Please consider a donation towards our inspectorate department. Keeping them mobile and fighting daily injustice to animals in our communities is a priority.”
Help the Sandton SPCA get the cubs into an environment they deserve and hopefully this Tiger King fool, prosecuted! Make a donation to the details below and make some noise online.
