If you have not noted a clear pattern in our eating habits, we will lay it out simply for you: we love tacos, and we found yet another place in the heart of what we like to call the Cape Town food district, Bree Street, to indulge our taste buds: Cabrón Taco Bar.
Cabrón in colloquial terms means to be cheated on, and we agree that this is the place to be if you are planning on cheating on your diet!
Cabrón Taco Bar definitely started our Saturday off right with their signature frozen margaritas, which have become one of our favourite cocktails in Cape Town as of this weekend. To start off our Mexican fiesta we paired our frozen margaritas with cheesy nachos, guacamole and salsa, and with that first bite, we became Cabrón Taco Bar’s biggest fans. If we can make a suggestion to management: the creamy cheese sauce should be poured in excess on all of the dishes!
The meal only got better. We ordered a selection of tacos, both soft shell and hard shell; their celebrated seared tuna tacos, with red cabbage slaw, homemade mayonnaise, and guacamole, pulled pork with white cabbage slaw, thinly sliced radishes, and homemade chipotle mayonnaise, and we did not stop there: a spicy chicken taco, with smoky and sweet Cajun pineapple, garlic, salsa, and habanero sweet chili sauce.
To accompany these three tacos, because we clearly did not order enough, we tried the pan-fried corn salad, served hot with smooth black pepper feta, coriander, lime and spring onion, and where were we going to stuff this corn salad? In their smoked pulled beef burrito of course! Served with Mexican rice, chunky guacamole, topped with that amazing creamy cheese sauce.
There is nothing quite like hard shell corn tacos, fresh nacho chips, and perfectly charred soft flour tortillas. Cabrón Taco Bar is definitely a 5! And remember, the most important meal of the day, is the one that lines your stomach for more frozen margaritas!
