This an event that I thought deserved a mention because of its ingenious use of online crowdsourcing as a method of deciding the final winners of a competition to find the best bands around town.
Global Moguls requires fans to vote online on the Global Moguls website allowing for a top 6 to be selected countrywide. These top 6 then battle it out on the night of the final down in Cape Town to find an eventual competition winner and SA representative. The winning band will be announced on the night with cell phone votes and votes on the website by fans who can watch clips on streaming video (neat!).
The finals of the Global Moguls search is being held from 1900 on the 27th November 2010 with Jack Parow as the headline act on the night. Each band gets to perform 3 songs and the event has free entrance but fans need to reserve their ticket via the Global Moguls website for them to be to allocate tickets. Quite wicked- I thought.
Ps All the peeps down here should give a little love to the two Cape Town based bands- Kaleido and Down on the Fist who are representing for the South as 2 of the 6 country finalists- we all know that they’re going to be the best anyways 😉
