Yesterday HBO released the first full trailer for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. There’s still over a good month to wait until the final season airs and if there’s one thing we know so far, with previous teasers and now the full trailer, is that we don’t know too much at all but after watching it over and over and reading some fan theories, we noted some interesting finds that stood out to us in the trailer – Warning SPOILER ALERT
All The Comebacks
Firstly, it’s important to note that eventually, we see Bran return on screen after being absent from all S8 teasers, he even gets a voice over but it’s unclear who he is talking to. We also see a mysterious boy in a tree during his voice over – this could be him as a child or a new character altogether. The final season will also see the return Podrick, Gendry (King Robert’s bastard son who explored beyond the wall with Jon Snow) and most notably Beric and Tormund Giantsbane who are both seen with Dolorous Edd in the trailer, revealed by the light of Dondarrion’s flaming sword. While there’s no clear shot of Ghost in the trailer – fans are heavily speculating that Jons beloved wolf will make a return.
Our First Look at The Golden Company
Those ships in the trailer might have Greyjoy sails, but what you’re looking at is the Golden Company, a legendary band of mercenaries from Essos who fight for no cause but the highest bidder. It was a small detail from last season, but we know that Cersei paid off her debts to the Iron Bank, then took out a new loan to hire the Golden Company to fight the Lannister armies. In season 7, Euron Greyjoy tells the group of people at the parley in the dragon pit that he is going back to Pyke, but he was actually heading east to ferry the Golden Company over to Westeros which is why they are on Greyjoy ships. Legend says the Golden Company has never broken a contract and they have war elephants.
