Mortal Kombat rose to popularity on consoles after doing a stint in the arcades because of it’s supremely gruesome fatalities and overboard levels of gore and violence. It literally was every young boy’s wet dream to smash one of their friends using Subzero or Scorpion and then finish them off with a crazy end move where they rip off their head and use it as a football or whatever.
