EFC Africa 5

If you missed the last few EFC Africa events, then you been missing out! I have been trying my best to keep up with all the event’s and was lucky enough to watch a mate of ours, Mark Jones fight in EFC Africa 4. He fought JHB tough guy Branden Katz who knocked Marky out, with only 4 seconds to go in the final round, the fight was named fight of the night. Von Lurie went through to the last event and said the quality of fights were top class. The sport itself looks set to be on the rise in a big way in South Africa. We will be sending Von Lurie through again to this event to give us a full review after heading down to EFC Africa 5. I hope we get lucky enough to see an EFC event down in Cape Town.

EFC AFRICA 5

Fight fans are gearing up for the biggest fight night ever on African soil, where the top heavyweight and lightweight fighters will battle it out for the championship titles.

Bernardo “the Black Panther” Mikixi is back in the main event for EFC AFRICA 05, where he will take on Norman “Chef” Wessels for the inaugural heavyweight title. Mikixi has fully recovered from his hand injury that he picked-up fighting at 03, and is now ready to take on the toughest opponent that he has ever had to face. Wessels has already made short work out of the heavyweight division and is looking forward to putting a stop to the Black Panther’s dominance. Both contenders have been training for this fight since May and have promised to make the most of their first title shot.

Also on this star-studded 05 card, which is presented by MusclePharm, lightweight champion Wentzel Nel defends his title against undisputed contender Chris Bright in the co-main event. This is the first time that Nel is defending his title, one which he said he will hold until “death do us part”, and he is going to have his hands full against the more experienced Bright.

“These are the by far the counties biggest and most anticipated fights ever” says EFC AFRICA director Cairo Howarth. “The level of excitement for this card is just unbelievable, this is going to be the biggest spectacle that this sport has ever seen on the continent”.

Garreth “Soldierboy” McLellan will take on his nemesis Wade Henderson, in what can only be described as the years most anticipated grudge match. This fight was scheduled to take place in August, but McLellan was injured during training and had to pull out of the fight, only adding to the build up and hype for this middleweight clash.

Rounding out the main card is a bout pitting rising lightweight star Costa Ioannou against the more experienced William Bentley. Ioannou is fresh of his destruction of Brendon Katz but is in for a long night against Bentley, who has an impeccable professional record and is making his EFC AFRICA début.

With 12 professional MMA fights on the night and an expected full house of 7000 fans this is not to be missed. Tickets from R225 are available now from Computicket so book early to avoid disappointment. Full fight card and more information at efcafrica.com.

Rumoured to have the blue-prints for Krang's TechnoDrome, stolen straight from Dimension X, he’s the type of guy who exudes so much coolness that he adds whole countries on Facebook at one time instead of just people. Always up for a party and a Tequila shot or two this is the guy who we always call first, both before and after a night out…

  1. Nice.

This is so cool to see this sport rising so quickly and gaining such popularity.

Nice exposure boys. Keep an eye out for suppossed EFC fight in the mother city in November.

Also if you want aquick interview with Bernado Mikixi you can catch him on the door outside the Fez (hovering and waiting for some practice on a little drunk deliquent i'm sure) haha..

Anyway thanks MCBN for the info.

    Cheers

    1. haha- “hovering and waiting for some practice on a little drunk deliquent i’m sure” always a positive reason to go out there 🙂

I’m very keen to see a couple of EFC fights go down locally- it’d be super sick!

  2. I hope so Ben, it would be great to have some fights down here. I would love to go watch some live fights.

I reckon its growing and it's not going to stop!!

I think Paul and Ash learnt first of ol Bernado then, dangerous times outside the Fez innit! hahaha

Keep your eyes open for Von Lurie full review…

  3. Hey. Well the night was an awesome experience. For some, even worth the cost of traveling. we cover all mma in South Africa, although Cape Town, which is clearly its own country, 😉 tends to keep their news to themselves. The sport is by far the fastest growing in the country and its great to see and for its money EFC is an entertaining night out, you dont often see worldclass production in this country and they have it.

    1. Howsit Smacktalk… I love it. Wish I could have seen what went down at EFC 5. Very nice site by the way… How was the main fight between Norm and Mikixi? Will check back for the fight videos soon…

Have to agree with you though, the sport is growing big time and even in Cape Town 😉 Would love to see an EFC event down here, that would be awesome!

      🙂
