Dine with Khayelitsha – 5th of February 2016

Dine with K

The South African dining experience, Dine with Khayelitsha has taken Cape Town by storm. Our Khayelitsha initiative sees people from all corners of the globe, coming together to enjoy what is described as a ‘purposefully awesome experience in the township.’

The impact of the dinners has already been extraordinary, with diners breaking down race boundaries in order to better understand elements of life from the township perspective.

Our township dinners are held at up to eight different homes, each with space for up to eleven guests, at a cost of R120 per person.

We host three-course dinners which are themed around topical conversations, with the last course tackling and implementing practical solutions to problems. Guests then head off to a local lounge, where they are entertained by a variety of talented artists.

Th NPO project also brings together the Khayelitsha youth, with student chefs, local artists and apprentice photographers, who all contribute to the dinners.

The outcomes that we are looking to achieve by these dining sessions are:
* Personal growth
* New friends
* Breathtaking ideas
* Shared cultures
* New perspectives
* Full stomachs
* Great memories

The Dine team isn’t looking to profit from this cause and wishes to take a more philanthropic approach, by rolling out the business plan to other townships across the country.

The Dine with Khayelitsha project came to light as a result of a group of young minds, who saw an opportunity to change the world by starting an NPO called Have Fun.

Have Fun is a primary level educational program, which assists young children with early childhood development and assisting them to become leaders of themselves. With difficulty in trying to find funding for the NPO project, the group needed to find a solution, which is how they came up with the concept of Dine with Khayelitsha.

The dinners serve as a platform to help fund the Have Fun NPO, with all the funds raised going to the Have Fun educational program. Dine with Khayelitsha, also serves as a great opportunity to meet diverse people, have a great night out and raise money for a fantastic local cause.
