The much loved Afrikaans Pop Electro (apparently that’s a real category of music in SA) group, Die Heuwels Fantasties are doing their bit to raise funds for the charity organisation, People Living with Cancer. They’ll be hosting two concerts towards this cause at the Willowbridge Barnyard Theatre in Bellville on the 14th and 15th of August.
“We’re very excited to do something like this again at the Barnyard. Last year was a major success. It felt slightly like a street braai with all our school friends and their parents attending. Much more is expected this time around, with it being for a good cause” – says Hunter Kennedy from DHF.
Supra Familias, the record label owned by Pierre Greeff and Hunter Kennedy, from Die Heuwels Fantasties, has a long history with People Living with Cancer. Supra Familias’ first release as a record label, was the Son in Blom compilation album in 2008, which generated funds for charity. Later in 2010 they released the Vredefest Elektro compilation album which raised money for the Vrede Foundation, which caters to young children living with cancer.
Last year the group won four MK Awards, including ‘Best Group’. They walked away with Tempo Awards for ‘Alternative music video of the year with MK Noorderlig’ and ‘Skopskuifalbum of the year with Wilder Wilder as die Wildtuin’. In 2010 the group won a SAMA Award for ‘Best Alternative Album – Afrikaans’, for their debut album, ‘Die Heuwels Fantasties’.
