Earlier this year acclaimed travel website, Time Out announced the return of its popular global survey, The Time Out Index – a huge, anonymous survey taken by urbanites across the world. The annual Time Out Index asks these city-dwellers about their native lives, what are they feeling, thinking, eating, drinking, and doing for fun? And which are the best cities for living a full and vibrant life.

In this year’s Time Out Index, the platform decided to drill down a bit and go even more local, asking 27,000-plus city-dwellers which specific rooftop bars they think are the coolest. Once again, Time Out consulted its global network of editors and experts to weigh up the candidates and make the call on their city’s number one hotspot.

Le Perchoir in Paris was dubbed the number one Rooftop Bar, followed by Sky Bar by Seen, Lisbon in second place and Folly Rooftop, Dubai in third. Making the top ten cut at number 5, is Cape Town’s very on Chinchilla Bar in Camps Bay.

The view Sandwiched between Table Mountain National Park and the Atlantic Ocean, Chinchilla overlooks Camps Bay Beach, a gorgeous stretch of white sand that’s lined with palm trees. Though this rooftop is only two stories up, the views rival some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world.

The vibe Laid-back and loungey, Chinchilla sports a resort-chic vibe that’ll make you want to while away an afternoon. (How could you ever get sick of that view?) A rotating cast of live DJs keeps things lively.

The drinks After spending the day on the beach, nothing sounds more appetizing than a Watermelon Mint G&T or a carafe of Peach Rosé Sangria. A bottle of crisp Chenin blanc or lush chardonnay would do the trick, too.

Don’t miss Staring at the ocean for too long can make you hungry (or so we hear). Luckily, the seafood-centric menu at Chinchilla is rife with prawns, mussels, oysters and crayfish. Might as well toss in an order of fries while you’re at it.
