Last week Cape Town Mayor put all of her support behind the Cape Town Bike Festival as she was presented with a bespoke white leather biker jacket emblazoned with the monogram “Cape Town’s Angel” at the launch of the Cape Town Bike Festival. Africa’s biggest ever bike event takes place from 16-18 December and promises to be something like we’ve never seen before.
One hundred trucks will enter the Cape Town Stadium on December 12 to deliver 1000 cubic metres of specially blended clay for the laying of the dirt track for the Cape Town Bike Festival while the incredible 96 hour set up will also see simultaneous installations of the Expo area in the stadium’s basement level and a large stage erected on the north side of pitch.
The first of its kind in South Africa, the exciting Cape Town Bike Festival (CTBF) combines the world of motorbikes with live entertainment, unique product displays, daring dirt bike extravaganzas (including the death-defying international Masters of Dirt stunt team) and the World Championship Bike Building competition hosted by custom bike-building legend, Russel Mitchell, over three epic days.
Other lifestyle elements in the festival include a flavours of the Cape food & wine market, I love my beer garden, unique shopping and nightly entertainment with 12 bands performing including Locnville and headlined by international super-rock group, Seether. In the custom construction work, the entire soccer field is to be covered in a triple protection system – a pre-event pitch protection programme will commence on 1 November using fertilizer to strengthen the grass before the event, a furthercombination of special “Terratrack” tiles for biking areas & stage and “Terratile” tiles for pedestrian areas. A scaffolding & engineering for stage and FMX bike landing areas will be erected along with a race track built from a substance resembling tar in both performance & durability.
The internationally-renowned Masters of Dirt team will perform on a course to be built for ultimate thrills, consisting of two massive, launching ramps which will launch FMX and Quad bikers up to 15 metres above the stadium floor!
