Treyarch’s awesomely popular Cold War based first person shooter and the latest in the best-selling Call of Duty franchise was released last night at midnight in South Africa. It’s a firm favourite of the MyCityByNight crew having lost hours of our life to online gaming and Zombie co-ops missions and it’s already broken records for the most pre-orders of a game ever.
With video games now taking the top spot in the entertainment world, moving more units than music or movies per annum, Call of Duty: Black Ops is set to go on to break even more records than its franchise predecessor, the billion dollar-plus seller Modern Warfare 2. There were literally hordes of gaming fanatics waiting to get their grubby paws on the COD Black Ops outside stores up until the game’s release at midnight last night. In a relatively new approach to entertainment and media releases – PC gamers who didn’t want to wait in queues or weren’t really bothered about having a physical copy of the game could pre-purchase the game on Steam, with it unlocking and becoming playable at midnight (super hot in terms of next gen album releases etc).
South Africans can purchase the game from all major gaming and computer outlets as well as online retailers around the country. Going to grab my copy a bit later today… World… say goodbye to Ricky for the next couple of weeks 🙂
