20 year old Cape Town native Das Kapital broke into music consciousness with his bootleg of Bon Iver’s modern day classic “Skinny Love”.

Picked up by upfront music blog aggregator Hype Machine, his mix was #1 on the weekly play chart three separate times and to date has been favourited by over 20,000 people.

His “rerub” is a mix of understated skill and rare reverence where Skinny Love is subtly reinvented while appealing to original fans and new discoverers alike – an impressive feat.

Further official remixes have followed – Hattie Murdoch for Portable Magic Records, Jiro Vega for GU / MOS, Richard The Third for African Dope Records, and Kyle Andrews have all benefitted from his sure touch so far.

Refusing to be tied down by any one genre, but deeply connected to the mood of his music, he seeks to take people on an introspective journey through intricate percussion, brooding melodies and dark bass, whether it be on a dancefloor or through their earphones. Always drawing from his surroundings, Das Kapital’s style is an ever-growing bank of tribal rhythms and heaving drums, twisted and chopped into something wholly his.

His debut EP – All Trades – is due out imminently, having been road tested on numerous DJ gigs throughout South Africa by himself and his contemporaries. This EP demonstrates his prowess as a producer, referencing Dubstep, Bigroom House, Electro and Rave.

This follows up releases and support from Red Bull Studios Cape Town, mixtapes on South African power-blogs We-Are-Awesome and DONT PARTY and many highly praised remixes for local artists.

A confident and entertaining DJ, he is a regular feature at premier Cape Town Electronic parties “Untamed Youth” (Fiction) and “Discotheque” (The Assembly), has supported International acts like LV (Hyperdub), CLOUDS (Turbo / Blood Music), Le Castle Vania (USA), as well as having played multiple back-to-back sets with South African Hard-Electro doyen HAEZER, to great response. Mashing up everything from Electro to Kuduro to Dancehall, it is clear that versatility is his weapon of choice.

Along with his collaborations with International rising talents in the South African Drum & Bass scene, Subliminal & ALXR, he seems set to keep growing in stature and profile throughout the Electronic Dance Music scene worldwide.

Riot Squad’s Mike Kelly and Kyle Maclean left behind their hometowns – Johannesburg and Durban respectively – in order to pursue their love of music in South Africa’s mother city, Cape Town. With music playing a major part in both their lives from a young age, the decision was based on the need to gain further musical education, and broaden their horizons in the city at the forefront of South Africa’s burgeoning electronic music scene.

In January of 2010, Mike and Kyle both happened to enrol at Cape Town’s renowned Soul Candi Institute of Music in order to study music production. Small classes meant that students spent a lot of time getting to know one another and so Mike and Kyle quickly began forming a close bond born from the love of electronic music. Their appreciation for harder, musically sound productions spanned such diverse genres as Drum and Bass, Dubstep, Breaks and Electro.

After six months of reckless partying, friendship gave rise to the decision to join forces and work together. Despite the fact that both Mike and Kyle enjoyed prior solo success as DJ’s and Producers (with Mike having previously produced under the aliases ‘Mini K’, ‘Mizer’ and ‘M.J. Kelly), the decision to come together as a creative unit was an easy one. And so, in July 2010, Riot Squad came to be.

With their sights firmly set on conquering the international market, be sure to keep a close eye on the indisputable DJ and Production force that is Riot

G Fritz started to DJ at the age of 18 while living in the UK. Learning on vinyl and being an avid listener of dance music since the age of 14, he quickly picked up the skills needed and began to play Hard House and Trance. This quickly led to sets all around the UK playing amongst some of the best underground DJs in the scene.

Slowly his musical tastes expanded to a new sounds like Techno, Electro and Breaks. LG Fritz was hooked and soon started to promote a monthly event, Audiotronic, showcasing the best up and coming Electro, Breaks and Techno DJ’s.

At the age of 21 LG Fritz made the move back to his country of birth, South Africa. He took some time away from the DJing to concentrate on various other work projects.

After an extended break from DJing, LG Fritz decided to get back into what he loved the most, playing bass line driven music. LG Fritz can be heard playing anything from Dubstep, Drum & Bass, Future Garage and Breaks.

For every person, something changes within them once they hear their first electro song. An awakening occurs. A passion begins. Some enjoy the party and appreciate good music; others make it a lifestyle. Something changed in the wee little German lad all those years ago; praising a mixtape, Crookers brought him to life. The German lad put DJ Sammy and Evermore aside, for far better beats to live for.

Cape Town’s electronica scene exploded. With parties hosted by Arcade, Untamed Youth and Rub-A-Dub-Something bringing a regular installment of sex music to the children of Cape Town, a following grew and amidst the crowd, young wee Blitzkrieg found his calling. Beginning as a mixer, inspired by Crookers, Blitzkrieg’s DJing style evolved with the scene; dabbling in drum and bass and dubstep, until finally settling on a distinct and versatile sound.

Every musician starts out in someone or others basement, and after having played at several house parties, Blitzkrieg had his first taste of the limelight. After winning a spot on the Brickcity line up, Blitzkrieg commanded the Fiction Dj booth, delivering a flawless set to a room of eager sweaty beatfreaks. From there, his career has flourished; a regular at Dansville, a collaboration with LG Fritz and Jonny Robotix, has seen Blitzkrieg join the Fukk It crew in hosting regular parties all over Cape Town and delivering a serious mix of electro, dubstep and the like.

Making the jump from mixing to producing, a promising future as on of Cape Town’s up and coming DJ’s awaits the wee German lad. Blitzkrieg will deliver a mess of original sound; distortion of hair raising quality and beats to jolt your pulse. Don’t wander about in the breaks, get lost in the music.

‘Blitzkrieg’ literally means ‘lightning war,’ and he’s going to burn this city down.
All the sweaty 20-somethings are demanding his encore. If you can hear them, you’ve been at the bar too long…

Johnny 12 Inch, known to his mom as Kyle Karsten, began his career in the electronic music industry in early 2009 under the training of Rick Hunter at DJ Mix Club in Johannesburg.

After honing his skills as a DJ throughout 2009, he then took his love of all things elctronica to the next level by turning himself to DJ/artist through the teachings of legendary Ryan Murgatroyd (aka Crazy White Boy) and Willie Els (aka Pziezzo Electric) at the Soul Candi Institute of Music in 2010.

Currently based in Cape Town, the Johnny 12 Inch project as a whole regards all kinds of music. Whatever keeps him happy…

Having enjoyed a joint residency at Vegas Lounge in Edward Street as well as gigs at the Bang Bang Club, Club 91, Carnival Court, Eastwoods, Carnage and China White. Johnny was also jointly involved in a resident spot for a weekly mix on UCT radio.
Production wise, there is plenty to come from the Johnny 12 Inch project and the future should see plenty of Johnny!!
