Ballantine’s Scotch Whisky wrapped up a three-country True Music Series x Felipe Pantone tour with an amazing finale event at Langa, Cape Town at the Guga S’thebe Arts & Culture Centre on Sunday 31st March.
Ballantine’s True Music Series is an annual project that gives uncompromising artists a unique platform to share and visualise music and music scenes that inspire artists and fans worldwide.
For this year, Ballantine’s partnered with renowned street artist Felipe Pantone to design unique Limited Edition Ballantine’s Finest and 12 Year Old with artwork inspired by the underground club culture, the recording and production process, and music soundwaves.
For the South African leg of the five-month True Music Series tour, alongside DJ and producer Kid Fonque’s visual podcast series, Kid Fonque Presents, Felipe used sound reactive audio-visual technology to transform his Ballantine’s designs into an equaliser.
Since November the striking backdrop has travelled to Pretoria, Port Elizabeth and finally Cape Town, and has been a striking podcast and performance backdrop for a killer line-up of True Music artists at each event.
It all came to an epic close last night in Langa when Kid Fonque, together with We House Sundays brought together 1400 True Music fans for a night of great music, great art and great drinks like no other. The line-up included:
- Johannesburg-based DJ and label manager Kid Fonque
- Respected British producer and DJ Charles Webster
- Multi-talented local singer-songwriter Sió
- Legendary We House Sundays crew Soul Crescent, Leighton Moody and Lawrence Dix

We have travelled to Moscow, Santiago and finally South Africa, celebrating the incredible artwork of Felipe Pantone which has brought the music of so many incredible artists to life, really transforming the performance experience for the artists and fans alike.
“It’s bittersweet to see this tour come to a close but thankfully the Ballantine’s True Music series is an annual celebration of music and art so we’ll be back soon enough with something new and exciting. Watch this space!”
Kid Fonque added, “The True Music Series x Felipe Pantone tour has been amazing in showcasing the musical genius of local South African DJ’s alongside the internationals such as AtJazz and Charles Webster. The artwork of Felipe Pantone has been phenomenal in its striking design and technology; it’s brought to life the music that fellow musicians have created. The fans that have come to each of the events have been the best and we look forward to bringing more unique experiences such as this one, more often.”
