Ashtray Electric Tour South Africa To Promote New Album – Measured in Falls.

Ashtray Electric`s new CD Measured in Falls was released in June 2011. The new album will be launched with a nationwide tour from 15 – 30 July.

Measured in Falls introduces Ashtray Electric`s new musical progression. It is not merely a collection of songs; it is an album in the full sense of the word. The new tracks are warm, luscious, and extraordinary. The album contains 11 brand new tracks, as well as their popular single “Release” (with Gazelle) as a bonus track. “Release” enjoyed high rotation on 5fm and national campus radio stations and the video reached no 1 on MK.

Lyrically the new songs touch on the concept of truth and deception and the tools such as manipulation that come along with it.

“With growing up, these are our closest everyday concepts that we deal with that define who we become/want to be.” – AGMP

Baptized in angst by the creatures in my head, I’ll be honest this time. I swear.”

“Because when direction’s never chosen, it’s just what fear tends to suggest. Then I’ll get it wrong with pleasure. I’m entitled to guess.”

“You kissed your own wetness now you’ve turned.”

The album cover shot features actual DNA strands of the bandmembers. Each band member had the inside of their cheeks swabbed with an ear bud. The epithelial (skin cell) tissue extracted from each member was lysed (breaking down of the cell wall) to expose the entire genetic genome into the lysed material. The DNA was then purified from all other cellular bodies and amplified using PCR technology. Each sample of DNA was then cut using a cocktail of enzymes and run in separate lanes on a Electrophoresis Gell giving rise to the 4 smears witnessed on the image. The broken bands in the 5th lane is a simple molecular weight marker.

The vocals of the album were recorded at Bovlei Studios in Wellington. Vocalist André Pienaar turned a room at his home into a studio. He literally lived in the studio during the time of recording; as they say, home is where the heart is. Drums, bass and lead guitars were recorded at Openroom Productions/SABC RBF Studios in Johannesburg. The album was produced by Darryl Torr and mastered by Troy Glessner at Spectre Mastering, Seattle, WA.

The bonus track “Release” (featuring Gazelle) was recorded at Red Bull Studios, CT.
Engineerd by Richard III, mixed by Regardt Nel at Signpost Sound and mastered by Troy Glessner at Spectre Mastering, Seattle, WA.

Rumoured to have the blue-prints for Krang's TechnoDrome, stolen straight from Dimension X, he’s the type of guy who exudes so much coolness that he adds whole countries on Facebook at one time instead of just people. Always up for a party and a Tequila shot or two this is the guy who we always call first, both before and after a night out…
