It’s time to get your red, yellow and green on as uShaka Marine World joins in the International Birthday celebrations of the iconic reggae sensation that is Bob Marley. This is the fifth year that Ushaka Marine World joins the rest of the world for The Annual Bob Marley Earth Day Reggae Music Festival and Rasta Fair and this year Wahooz on the Promenade plays host as reggae lovers get to ‘put your lighters up’ from 10am to 6pm on Sunday, February 8th.
The music of Bob Marley continues to influence pop culture and local music and as a special South African tribute the local celebrations are set to be even bigger and better than before.
With a star line-up headlined by local favourites, The Meditators and including guest bands from across Africa such as Rasta Riddims, Azania Band (CPT), Hottwax Family DJ’s(ZIM), MC King Seed (KZN), Jimmy Anderson Band (Malawi), Ras LovI and the Rasta Riddims (KZN), Don Franco Tafari (Zimbabwe), DJ Dread (JHB), Sizwe Zakwe and the Rasta Project (Richards Bay), Word, Sound and Power Band (Amanzimtoti), Holy Fire Band (DBN), Selektor Oupa Abba’klik Chikwedere (Zimbabwe), Selektors RedEye Mabanda and the HottWaxx Family (Zimbabwe), Selektor Jah Crucial Papa Noise (Gauteng), RYMZO – The Roaring Lion (Nigeria), Sugar Dancellar Bobo Brimstone (Zimbabwe) and Selektor DJ Smash (Soweto), this is one day you will not want to miss.
Muso’s across the world agree that the appeal of reggae music stretches beyond across cultures and generations. More than anything Bob Marley was a Peace Activist and his music got straight to the heart of it, in particular, speaking directly to the dream of one love, one nation united through a shared love of music.
Entry is free, so join in, dress up and get ‘jammin’ to the unique rhythms of this Jamaican legend. With themed chilled cocktails in hand, keep it irie, live one love and let’s “light up the darkness”!
