This June, staff members from MTN Western Cape will be joining forces with Greenpop to explore their natural inclining for having green thumbs, setting out to plant 700 trees at 6 schools in Mitchell’s Plain.
This particular initiative is inspired by MTN’s ‘21 days of Y’ello Care’ programme, of which this year’s theme is ‘Making a positive difference to the environment’.
Not only will MTN staff be planting indigenous trees suitable for the Mitchell’s Plain area to provide more biodiversity and to aid in compensation for the country’s carbon footprint; they will also be planting fruit trees to feed school children and provide much-needed nutrition to their diets. That’s right- these trees will be used to improve the general well-being of the school kids and residents of the rough and tumble area of Cape Town.
The launch of MTN Western Cape’s 21 days of tree-mendous planting will take place on Friday 3 June 2011 and will be a celebration of World Environment Day, which takes place on 5 June 2011. 300 trees will be going into the ground at two neighbouring schools, with around 250 MTN planters getting their hands dirty while practical planting lessons will be offered to the school children.
