Fans get a glimpse at the new Mortal Kombat movie in epic first trailer

The very first trailer for the 2021 Mortal Kombat film was released last week. The upcoming fantasy action is directed by Simon McQuoid and is based on the video game franchise of the same name created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.

The 2021 film will serve as a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film series and tells the story of a washed-up fighter named Cole Young (Lewis Tan).

“Young is unaware of his hidden lineage or why he is being hunted down by Sub-Zero of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm in a high-stakes battle against the forces of Outworld.”

The first trailer features fan-favourite characters including Jax (Mehcad Brooks), Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), Scorpion (Hirojuki Sanada), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Kano (Josh Lawson), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Kung Lao (Max Huang), Mileena (Sisi Stringer), Shang Tsung (Ng Chin Han) and Goro.

A fan-edited trailer is also going viral this week, in which the music is replaced with the original Mortal Kombat techno soundtrack.
