Whenever people do things like this, I always wonder if it’s because they were simply not busy enough with their day job. A trauma surgeon, crash investigation expert and artist working in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission in Australia decided to delve deeper into the evolution of humans in relation to car crashes to develop an interactive sculpture designed to show what humans would look like if we evolved to the point where we could withstand car crashes.
The sculpture they came up with is a called Graham and has no neck, which means he can’t break it and is also covered in far more fat on his face to protect his nose and ears, as well as having airbags in between each rib and knees that bend in all directions. He’s also enough nightmare fuel to keep us all going for the next 6 months at least.
The Commission says:
Cars have evolved a lot faster than humans, and Graham helps us understand why we need to improve every aspect of our roads system to protect ourselves from our own mistakes.
If you’re in the area, Graham is on show at the State Library of Victory in Oz until August 8th
