EFC Worldwide is returning to the Grandwest Arena on Friday, the 22 April and that means you’ll catch us ringside cheering on our favourite fighters & what’s better than a night of exciting fights? A night with 2 title fights! You can be sure to expect some intense fights, loads of elbows and some of SA’s finest MMA fighters.
Because EFC 48 has such a strong Cape Town flavor on the fight card, we thought we’d make things interesting with a prediction challenge against our close friends, The Pundits – we’ve been ringside together at every EFC in Cape Town, so we thought we’d spice things up with a prediction challenge.
As part of this prediction challenge, we’re also giving away double tickets to EFC 48 at Grand West – all you need to do is make some predictions in the comment section below and you could win a set of double tickets to EFC 48.
Groenewald vs Van Heerden – Heavyweight Title Fight
MCBN: As a previous title holder and a favourite of ours, we’re going to be backing Groenewald. Danie is one of the hardest hitters and one of the toughest in the division so it can easily go either way, but one thing you can expect is an action packed fight. We don’t see this one going to the judges. Groenewald by KO.
PUNDITS: Brendan has been a personal favourite of mine since I started watching EFC and the fact that he is a Cape Town boy, puts even more pressure on me to back him.
This fight is for the vacant heavyweight title and we back Groenewald to beat van Heerden in a very tightly contested fight.
The Pundits’ Pick: Groenewald
MCBN’s Pick: Groenewald
Sayed vs Doyle – Bantamweight
MCBN: We’ve been waiting patiently for the PENA vs SAYED match up and unfortunately we won’t be seeing that happen anytime soon, which has left Sayed fighting Doyle for the interim title. Doyle is an experienced fighter with explosive power but we don’t see him being much of a match for the talented Cape Town fighter, Sayed. We’ve seen a load of trash talk from both fights, but Sayed’s walking into the fight undefeated and we see him leaving the cage the same way.
PUNDITS: With Pena refusing to defend his title in Cape Town, Sayed and Doyle now have a chance to win the interim Bantamweight title.
Sayed has never lost a fight in EFC and his explosive energy should be enough to beat the hard-hitting Doyle.
The Pundits’ Pick: Sayed
MCBN’s Pick: Sayed
Madge vs Chelin – Lightweight
MCBN: Tyson is coming off a 2 fight losing streak while Madge has been hard at work since his trilogy with Leon Mynhardt and THAT epic 5 round war with Boyd Allen. With a recent move to FFM, it’ll be interesting to see how this has changed his game. In our view, Madge will be too strong for Chelin – Another fight we don’t see going to the judges.
PUNDITS: Cape Town’s EFC poster boy is back in action – Madge has had some difficulty since losing his Lightweight title but he seems determined to come back stronger. If his social media feeds are anything to go by, Don’s been training hard and should be ready for this one!
Magic Man Madge will make the Mother City proud with a win over Chelin.
The Pundits’ Pick: Madge
MCBN’s Pick: Madge
Hulme vs Kabanda – Welterweight
MCBN: Hulme is an incredibly tough fighter, so this matchup is going to be a perfect chance to see FOTN. Kabanda trying to make it 4 from 4 and Hulme coming off a solid win against Kabulu, you can expect fireworks. Hulme has completed 11 of his 15 rounds in the cage, which shows it’s going to be a tough night for Kabanda to keep his record intact.
PUNDITS: There’s a reason why Kabanda goes by the name of BLOCK – he is slightly shorter than Hulme with a shorter reach, but if he lands some punches with his strong boxing background, he should win this one with ease.
We back Block to make it 4 wins from 4 in his EFC career.
The Pundits’ Pick: Kabanda
MCBN’s Pick: Hulme
Mdoko vs Botha – Lightweight
MCBN: We have two fighters with explosive KO power and the same fight record – We’ve always been a fan of Hanru’s never say die and hard hitting attitude, his ground game is solid to match his stand up. We’d be lucky if this goes to the judges.
PUNDITS: Two fighters with the identical EFC record of 5-3-0, which should make for an interesting fight.
Mdoko does not like to leave fights to go all the way to judges’ decision and should see Botha off before it goes to that.
The Pundits’ Pick: Mdoko
MCBN’s Pick: Botha
Mukulu vs Pretorius – Welterweight
MCBN: Bruno is one of the hardest workers out there. Another Cape Town fighter with a big support from his hometown. He’s also fought some of the toughest fighters in the division. His experience will pay off for the W in this fight.
PUNDITS: Rounding off our predictions by once again backing the Cape Town fighter. Bruno Mukulu is the most experienced going into this one and his powerful punching might be too much for Pretorius to handle.
The Pundits’ Pick: Mukulu
MCBN’s Pick: Mukulu
